Horseback Riding

Horseback rides are included with our all inclusive packages. Off-ranch visitors can sign up for individual rides. Each of our rides is guided by our own experienced wranglers who are familiar with the horses and trails surrounding the Ranch. Our wranglers can handle the needs of both beginners and experienced riders.

Guided horseback rides are available throughout the day except for Sundays, when the horses rest. Novices can enjoy leisurely, 1-hour or 2-hour morning, afternoon, and sunset rides while the more advanced riders can enjoy 4-hour excursions into higher elevations. Children under 8 years of age will enjoy wrangler-led corral rides in our pasture. Please note that there is a weight limit of 225 POUNDS.

Parade Rest Ranch sits at the base of the Gallatin National Forests, surrounded by mountains. The 1.8-million-acre forest in southwestern Montana shares not only borders with the famed national park, but also its Bighorn sheep, elk, and grizzlies, which cross between the two protected areas without disruption. The terrain ranges from 5,000 feet to over 10,000 feet. Dense stands of timber, open meadows, rock outcroppings, spectacular mountain peaks, waterfalls, clear mountain streams, lakes, and a wide variety of flora and fauna can be found throughout the area.

Our trail rides leave right from our corrals through our ranch roads and right onto mountain trails. Our trails wind through the meadows to incredible vistas and hidden mountain lakes. Watch for wildlife including moose, elk, deer, bears and even an occasional bison. Ride past nesting bald eagles and strutting grouse while listening to the cacophony of mountain songbirds.

Please note that advance reservations are required so we can have your horse saddled up and ready to go! Choose from these rides:

Recommendations: We recommend that you should wear boots or shoes with heels, gloves, and a lightweight jacket, sweater (or sweatshirt) and a hat with stampede strap. If possible, bring raingear or a poncho that can be folded into a small pouch. Thunderstorms can occur at anytime during the spring, summer, and fall months.

Bring insect repellent. Mosquitoes and biting flies can be bad at certain times of the year.

For day trips, remember to bring sunburn lotion and sunglasses.

While this area has beautiful lakes and clear streams, the parasite Giardia is found in most water sources. DO NOT DRINK directly from streams or lakes. We suggest bringing bottled water.
